Public campaign "Satıra qylmys emes", Oyan Kazakhstan movement
- Satıra qylmys emes (Satire is not a crime) was a campaign launched in 2025 by activists from the youth political movement Oyan Kazakhstan in defence of Temirlan Ensebek, author of the satirical project Qaznews24, who was accused of inciting hatred due to his posts on social media. The campaign brought together journalists, activists and users who spoke out in defence of freedom of expression and the right to satire as a form of social criticism. Its participants held pickets, wrote appeals and actively engaged in discussions in the media, emphasising that humour and irony should not be punishable by law, while many were detained by the police. Videos related to the campaign have garnered more than 500,000 views. ‘Satire қылмыс емес’ has become a symbol of the struggle for freedom of speech, creative self-expression and the right to civic engagement in Kazakhstan.
